Let's Play PSX: Zipangu-jima - Unmei wa Saikoro Kimeru! (J)
This name is a mouthful, but it turns out... this is a Settlers of Catan variant! When I saw the game board, I knew right away, but the tricky thing is figuring out... how things are different. The rules aren't very easy to understand, and to be fair I didn't read them all. Apparently instead of trading to the other players, you trade to the bank. And a card is replaced with "10" resources. Mostly you are trading in groups of 10, but sometimes you'll need to pay additional fractions of a card (values less than 10).
Towns and cities still earn you resources just like you'd expect, but building them is a bit different. Also, the game adds Combat to the mix. You have units that you can move by paying a grain card once a turn. A basic unit rolls 1 die, and a stronger unit rolls 2. I think defender also rolls more dice than the attacker... So, it's sort of like Risk mixed with Catan.
