Mission 2: Return to Danger is an expansion pack for Spear of Destiny released by FormGen in May 1994 alongside Mission 3: Ultimate Challenge, another mission pack. Both mission packs modify Spear of Destiny and replace its floors with new ones.
Due to the limitations both mission packs have, namely keeping the entire structure of Spear of Destiny, including the number of floors, secret floors, boss encounters, and even the boss names and ending cutscene, both expansions feature B.J. Blazkowicz recovering the Spear of Destiny twice more.
Changes include new colours of weapons and environment, as well as new visuals for items. All enemies have been recoloured or redesigned (with mutants being replaced by minigun-wielding bats), though they remain mechanically unchanged.
Both mission packs were received negatively. Criticism included visual changes for the sake of it and amateurish level design. Many floors were perceived as unnecessarily mazelike, and with an overreliance at (sometimes poorly telegraphed) pushwalls. On at least one floor, players can softlock themselves by activating a pushwall from the wrong angle.
