Let's Play Starward Rogue: AuGMENTED - #36: Paladin on Extended Normal (1)
5In this part of Starward Rogue: AuGMENTED, I start using the Paladin mech on the Extended Normal mode. This is one of the three new mechs added with this expansion. Full disclosure, I got a free copy from Arcen Games to LP this game and its expansion.
The Paladin Mech is a defensive melee/short-ranged brawler. It has above average health, one shield, average attack, range, and energy, and a high missile capacity. It starts out with the Phantom Blade, Power Shield, the Holy Missile Launcher, and a LOH unit. The blade is a throwable sword that can pierce through walls, and deals more damage at melee range. The Power Shield can not only delete any projectile in the game, but can also shield bash enemies - temporarily stunning them. The Holy Missile Launcher actually fires several smaller homing missiles at once. The LOH unit is a consumable that fully restores the mech's health while triggering temporary invulnerability.
With enough skill, players can use the Power Shield to stun most enemies and mini-bosses, and prevent them from attacking at all. Though, the effectiveness decreases as the enemies become tougher deeper into the Megalith. At the very least, the power shield can still effectively be used to block shots at higher levels.
The main downside I see of this mech is its reliance on close-ranged combat. Unless the primary weapon is replaced or heavily buffed with power-ups, certain enemies, mini-bosses, and bosses (like the Warden and Terminus) will be much more challenging to dispatch. Nonetheless, I like this mech better than the Warhog, and its effectiveness scales a lot based on the player's skill level.
Seemingly like before, floors 1 and 2 weren't the best. However, on floor 3, I got a nice grasp of the mech's playstyle.
