Let's Play The Elder Scrolls Daggerfall - Part 11 - Ricky Finds a Way to Stop Time
Welp, I forgot to show my Daggerfall screen until we were about half an hour into the video. Vorknkx shows up before that and starts sending messages, but doesn't tell me that I have a black screen. That could have been useful. In any event, this means that you will only get audio for 30 minutes and see Vork's messages, but overall there really isn't anything at all you missed besides what was already seen in the previous part.
Basically, our situation is that we saved after we were poisoned and I didn't want to have to redo the entire dungeon, especially since we got a lot of good chain armor and gold out of that dungeon. The problem is that we die a few minutes into the game. This part showcases me discovering an exploit (not seen due to the black) and then using it to get rid of my poison. Not exactly the most prideful of videos, but at this point I am willing to do anything since I feel I was cheated with how I suddenly go from being healthy to having poison.
The exploit is simply to go to the main menu. Upon going to the main menu, the in-game clock will reset to 0 seconds of that particular minute, meaning you have about 60 seconds or so instead of whatever you had before. This means that if you spam the menu, you actually can make it through the entire dungeon without getting poisoned or losing health. Note that due to the way this whole situation works, you will be poisoned as soon as you stop spamming and die a few minutes into it. We are essentially stopping game time with this exploit, meaning for most of this we are at 6:55 PM. I sometimes go over and lose health, but we get pretty consistent as we go along.
We can't exactly fast travel using this exploit though, since doing such would result in time passing and therefore us dying. We need to manually walk to wherever we need to go. As the dungeon is in the middle of nowhere and we need to walk to the nearest temple, this results in a forty minute or so trek just to see a town that cannot help me (and an hour long trek to make it to the temple, meaning it takes 20 minutes to go back and forth between the town and temple). During this trek, we see nothing but grey dirt and rocks. This is why I say you missed nothing with the blackness, there literally was nothing besides me walking out of the dungeon using the exploit and then walking across the greyness using the exploit while Vorknkx rambles about Arena. Yeah, this part was terrible, but it just lines up with how terrible of an experience it was for me. Walking an hour to get to a temple is not fun.
Of course, we make it all the way to the temple only to find out that there is nothing useful there for me. One guy can train me, which is surprising since it reminds me of Morrowind, but I can't exactly bother with trainers at the moment. We have some weird summoner, people to buy and make spells, and someone that allows us to donate to the temple. We also have someone who cures disease... but not poison. Pretty much, we are doomed.
I then decide to head back to town, but realize a big flaw with that plan. If we have stopped time, we are stuck at a time when it is seen as night, making it impossible to buy goods such as cure poison potions. But if we try to make it day, time will pass, and we will die of poison. No matter what, we are basically doomed, but I try to make it to town regardless.
We make it to town, but discover there is nothing there but residences and an inn. In desperation, since wandering further would be a waste of time, I decide to see what happens if we do certain things. Specifically I try to get the guards to arrest me. That results in instant death, so I try getting a room in an inn. We die of poison but at the same time heal. Basically we heal at a fast enough rate that we cheat death, but at the same time due to the fact that we "die" we also manage to get rid of our poison. Except for the fact that now we have some other weird condition known as Witches Pox. A disease that says it will ruin my stats, but doesn't seem to do anything. One trip to the temple nearby later (since now we can fast travel without instant death) and we are finally cured of all problems. Furthermore, none of our stats were affected, or at least permanently!
In fact, I actually have some praise to give to Daggerfall in regards to diseases. Disease in Arena was the ultimate troll effect there, you basically could cure your disease but your stats would be permanently lowered. Here, you have red text when your stats get lowered, which tells you it is temporary. Upon curing your poison/disease, you gain the stats you lost back. Basically, this means that we can stock up in cure potions and not lose a bunch of stat points. In fact, that will make more sense, since save-scumming seems quite impossible given the design (perhaps this was on purpose to prevent such). Now we just need to find cure poison and disease potions so this cannot happen in the future...
