Let’s Play The Plutonia Experiment #26: The ‘Calm’ before the Storm
128I’ve found that there’s a trend among the early Doom games to have some of the later levels be easier than those that came before. Perhaps this is to give the player some breathing room to stock up on ammunition for the final level or maybe they do this to lull the player into a false sense of security that the most difficult part is over and done with. Whatever the reason, the next few levels of Plutonia will be a step down in challenge from what we’ve recently been dealing with, though that step is very shallow indeed.
Remember too that Plutonia is harder than Doom II by default, constantly throwing far more dangerous foes at you in larger numbers so even the game it takes it easy on you, still a more challenging than equivalent levels in previous instalments. The game is still going to be absolutely intent on seeing us fail with traps around every corner, most of which will surely be full of all the enemies we like the most: chaingun zombies, revenants, pain elementals and archviles. If you need to take time to question whether I in fact like those enemies, by the way, I have to ask where you’ve been for the entire let’s play.
