A full game walkthrough of The Shapeshifter, the brand new puzzle, fantasy adventure game for the GameBoy, made in 2021. This video shows all of my gameplay with commentary of how I completed the entire game from start to finish. At the end of part 1 (this video) you can find a mini review detailing my thoughts about the game.



The Shapeshifter is a fantasy adventure game that puts you in the shoes of Elliot, an ordinary person who is going to spend the weekend in the mountains, where he meets an elf that will grant him the power of becoming the animal he touches.


The game plays out as a bit of a point and click adventure, without the pointing... most of the time. Watch the video and you'll see what I mean, but it's certainly an easy to play, relaxing game that anyone could give a go.



The Shapeshifter is part of a retro game revival, that sees companies producing brand new games for classic consoles. Not only is it impressive that games are still being produced within the limitations, and in the style, of the original Nintendo GameBoy, but also The Shapeshifter can be purchased as a physical cartridge. I'm a huge fan of retro gaming at the best of times and so seeing people still keeping the medium alive whilst also innovating fresh new games is incredible to me.

There's also a code wheel. Literally an old fashioned wheel you need to spin to line up certain creatures to reveal codes. It's a strange thing for me to get excited over but come on, how cool is that? Takes me straight back to the days of Monkey Island.
