Only one level remains in this game and in it is the final boss. Being on the highest difficulty I expect completing this level will be a considerable challenge not helped by the fact that I've started it with 1% health. Surely that's going to impede by ability to finish it at as the creators of the level will have considered this as a possibility. No lack of health is going to stop us from completing the game however; one way or another, we're going to see the ending.

Now where are those health kits?

Compared to the sequel Spear of Destiny I have to say the original is actually a much better game. It suffers far less from level design issues later on that the sequel did, often providing interesting challenges to overcome rather then room after room full of huge numbers of enemies that Spear of Destiny did at the later points. Having it split into an episodic manner might have helped in that regard as they could slowly ramp up the threats in each individual episodes -albeit faster as you moved from one episode to another - as opposed to the sequel where there was no such separation of levels in the game.

For one of the first hugely successful FPS games Wolfenstein has aged well in some ways and badly in others. The graphics have a simplicity to them that's distinctive even now and some of the music tunes are quite fun to listen to. The control mechanics however are clunky especially if you're using a keyboard and once you get used to the way levels are structured - find the keys to open the doors to the end of the level - it can get quite repetitive. I still enjoy this game even despite it's flaws and remember it was a piece of gaming history that will likely never be forgotten. I encourage anyone who hasn't played this game yet to do so so they can experience playing one of the games that helped kick start the entire FPS genre.

So what's next? I think we'll be steering away from FPS games for a little bit but apart from that who knows? I have a couple of ideas, a few games that I feel I haven't played for a long time myself. If I end up picking one of those games remains to be seen, it's all a mystery in the end is it not?

See you next Let's Play!
