Let's Play Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone PT1 - The Task of Reclaiming Her Homeland
Subtitled: Strategy + Cards = Surprisingly Manly
Ahahahaha.
This LP was one long held to me ever since I first played this game about 4 years ago. I held this game very close and I regard it as one of my favorite Strategy RPGs ever: innovative, difficult, and fun - all three of these describe this game.
Now, see for yourself!
Yggdra Union, developed by Sting and later localized by Atlus, is the second game in Sting's Department of Heaven games, a series of games in the same storyline, sharing the same limelight with games such as Riviera: The Promised Land and Knights in The Nightmare. This game takes place long before Riviera's events(or so I understand), combining all sorts of elements that make this game both challenging and entertaining.
You follow the lead of Princess Yggdra Yuril Artwaltz, heir to the throne of the kingdom of Fantasinia, as her homeland of Paltina is ravaged and her parents slain by the Bronquian Emperor of Carnage, Gulcasa. As she flees, she befriends a boy named Milanor, the famous Silver Wolf, renowned for his thievery and leadership. With his help, it's up to Yggdra to amass an army to help take back her home and overthrow Gulcasa. It's a basic story on paper, but the game takes so many turns, you'll be spinning.
Though the game first came out on the GBA, I'm playing the PSP version, which is an enhanced port of the game. Differences include new characters, new cards, new battlefields, refined mechanics, ability to speed up battles, a new difficulty setting, a fully voiced storyline, and a new ending. Basically, a far more definitive game.
In this episode, I begin the game, starting Chapter 1: A Fugitive Bearing Hope. We follow Yggdra as she escapes Bronquian pursuers by ducking out in Milanor's hideout. Milanor and his band sees the commotion occurring and, when they notice their den under(and on) fire, decide to kick ass! There's a LOT to learn about this game, so it'd be wise to not miss a beat.
Battlefield 1 is a basic introductory map to how the game flows. Just play along and you'll do fine.
In case my explanation of the main stats was inadequate, here's a more concise version:
Morale - Your unit's general health. Grows higher as the unit levels up and gains stats.
GEN(General Leadership) - Your unit's ability to defend against charges and counters, card skills, and lessens Morale damage inflicted on you(as shown through Unit Difference).
ATK(Attack) - Your unit's attack and ability to last in a clash. Increases Morale damage inflicted on your target(as shown through Unit Difference).
TEC(Technique) - Your unit's ability to attack with charges, counters, and card skills.
LUK(Luck) - Your unit's ability to critical hit, activate special attacks, and drop foe's item after they are defeated.
After the fight, Milanor sees Yggdra and asks what happened. She fills him in and requests his assistance in getting her home back. Milanor is down with it, but for a price. He wants her sword, the Gran Centurio, but Yggdra won't give it up, so Milanor instead settles on Castle Paltina after getting it back. Yggdra takes the offer, ending Battlefield 1.
