We know now what we need to do thanks to the not-so-subtle hint from Wahook and we've arrived on the third floor of the tower. With three of the four symbols in our possession, it's merely a matter of finding the fourth, reaching the Shadowking and somehow getting him to fall for the exact same thing that he used to trap the gods all those years ago. You'd think that with the device being his there'd be absolutely no chance that he'd be foolish enough go anywhere near it if he thought there was an inkling of a chance that he'd fall victim to it, but hubris can make people do silly things. A god might think it impossible for a mere mortal to best them and with that mindset, what's the harm in letting Drake get right next to him? Better yet, he can finish what Khull-Khuum left him alive to start, assembling the orbs for him so he can remain in power forever.

Drake and his friends have only their courage, friendship and a near bottomless supply of healing items, throwing weapons, melee weapons, magic and almost every other item that was ever possible to pick up at their disposal. What are the odds that through all that item hoarding they found the exact things needed to defeat the Shadowking, free the Gods and save the world? If you've been paying attention at all during this let's replay, you'll know the answer to that already.

Returning to Stonekeep has been a joy for me. I've greatly enjoyed playing through the game again, re-experiencing all that I loved about it before and discovering new things I like about it. Playing the game differently has allowed me to progress a lot faster while using different methods of combat and even a little less arrow throwing... a little less anyway. The atmosphere is fantastic, the graphics a joy to behold once more. The music builds the mood of wherever you are brilliantly and the voice acting is impressive with a cast of great and experienced actors. The gameplay is pretty solid, though I'm better able to see some of the failings of the engine after so long playing it. Linear for the most part, it has a story to tell and tells it well, though at times you can go long periods without hearing much about it. It all paints a canvas of a world in peril, on the brink of utter doom which can only be saved by your actions, though even within it there is some hope and even humour. Those that love 90's dungeon crawlers will find a lot to like in this game and I encourage you to give it a try yourselves. Perhaps you'll take different party members or use different weapons, but whatever you do you'll surely have fun doing it.

You can tell as they made this that they wanted it to be the start of a long series and, had the second game not got delayed and eventually cancelled we might still be seeing releases from the franchise now. As it stands, the only follow-ups to the game are a book bridging the gap between it and a game that never existed and a very subpar WiiWare game that is a Stonekeep game in little more than name.

So what's next? There's no secret this time what I'm going to be playing, for I promised for the ten year anniversary that I'd return to XCOM: UFO Defence and once more try and save the world. Who knows, maybe we'll see Drake and his friends fight alongside the countless other characters from my let's plays as they try to shoot aliens in the face with zappy pew pews. Will we succeed in saving the Earth or will it once again fall to the aliens? We'll find out soon enough.

See you next let's replay!
