My, does TNT love its tech bases. I am a fan of them too, but they levels that focus around them are often sprinkled in between more infernal themed ones with no explanation. Perhaps Doomguy is travelling through patches of corruption or maybe there's teleport hijinks going on in the background, not that it really matters.

I'd be lying if I said I played Doom games for the plot, thin as it often is. There are levels to go through and enemies for you to defeat within them and that's all you need for this. I love FPS games with a good plot - Deus Ex is amazing, albeit a hybrid of FPS and RPG mechanics - but the old Doom games do fine without them.
