Libretro Cores Quick Look - Flycast Libretro WinCE - Sega Rally 2
Big improvements have been made by flyinghead over the past few days to the Windows CE branch. Sega Rally 2, an old racing game by Sega on Sega Dreamcast, now runs flawlessly!
This game was ported to the Dreamcast using the Windows CE framework.
This game is running on a Windows 10 PC with a Core i7 7700k running at 4.2GHz clockspeed and an Nvidia Titan XP (roughly equivalent to a 1080 Ti with 1GB more VRAM). As you can see, it runs at fullspeed.
In this video we are using Per-pixel alpha sorting (the most expensive/accurate option) and we have the internal resolution set to over 2880x2160. The output resolution is 4096x2160.
The Dreamcast port is vastly inferior to the Model 3 original arcade version. As you can see, it does not run at a solid 60 frames per second and seems to continually hover between 60fps and 30fps depending on what is happening onscreen. The Windows CE overhead on top of the overhead imposed by Direct3D 6 could likely be blamed for this. At the same time, Sega released a port of this to PC that could actually run at a solid 60fps, so this game seems to have been developed at the time with the specific intent of it being a dual PC/Dreamcast release.
