''Life as We Know It'' is a comedy drama starring Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel.  The movie opens in U.S. theaters on October 8, 2010.  In ''Life as We Know It,'' Heigl and Duhamel play singles Holly and Eric.  When their mutual best friends are killed, the pair are named guardians of their friends' baby - one year old Sophie.  Despite their mutual disdain for each other, Holly and Eric must come together into a "makeshift family" to bring Sophie up in the way her parents would have wanted.  ''Life as We Know It'' also stars Christina Hendricks, Josh Lucas and Jean Smart. 

Reviews for ''Life as We Know It'' began coming out several days before the movie's scheduled release.  Overall, reviews were generally unfavorable.  On October 7, 2010, ''Life as We Know It'' garnered a 31 percent "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes' "Tomatometer." The film scored a 39 out of a possible 100 on Metacritic.com.

Some major movie critics said while the performances of Heigl and Duhamel were adequate, ''Life as We Know It'' suffers because of its "predictability."  Kick Honeycutt of ''The Hollywood Reporter'' is among them.  Honeycutt says of ''Life as We Know It'': "Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel do make for very attractive leads while bringing plenty of vitality to thinly written roles."  Brian Lowry of ''Variety'' says while ''Life as We Know It'' may be "better than most" in the comedy drama movie genre, it is nevertheless a "predictable date-night diversion."  Jake Coyle of the Associated Press says while Heigl and Duhamel "both have handsome, movie-star presence and keep the film entertaining," the "familiar story passes with nothing to distinguish itself from the many other similarly plotted movies and sitcoms." Critic Lisa Schwarzbaum of ''Entertainment Weekly'' says ''Life as We Know It'' is "a comedy as disposable - and stinky - as loaded Pampers."

Bottom line: many critics agree that ''Life as We Know It'' is predictable, so if you're looking for surprises in your theater escape, you might want to look elsewhere.  As Roger Ebert puts it: "What happens in ''Life as We Know It?''  You'll never guess in a million years.  Never."
