Disney’s recent live-action remake of Mulan has drawn backlash for filming in Xinjiang, while the 2016 film Dr. Strange scrubbed a Tibetan character. They are just two examples of how Hollywood is making decisions on films and scripts to cater to the large Chinese market. Our panelists examine the latest controversy over Mulan, look at why and how Beijing wants to influence the American film industry, and discuss future trends.
