** UPDATED HOW TO 21/07/2015 **
Nowadays the game won't draw with the standard version of wine (unpatched 1.7.47 results in a black screen flashing when launching the game). You will need to use wine-staging ( wine with experimental patches www.wine-staging.com )to get around this graphical issue.
1/ Install wine-staging :
https://github.com/wine-compholio/wine-staging/wiki/Installation
2/ Create a new fresh wineprefix :
WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=/home/john/.winemwo winecfg
Were's "john" is your home userdir.
2b/ Optional step - Enable csmt :
In the winecfg window, "staging" tab, tick "Enable CSMT for better graphic performance"
3/ Download winetricks ( http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks ) :
wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Winetricks/winetricks/master/src/winetricks
chmod +x winetricks
4/ Install dot net 4.0 and visual c++ runtime 2010 using winetricks:
WINEPREFIX=/home/john/.winemwo ./winetricks vcrun2010 dotnet40
5/ Download the Mechwarrioronline installer :
http://mwomercs.com
6/ Install mechwarrior online :
WINEPREFIX=/home/john/.winemwo wine MechWarriorOnlineInstaller.exe
7/ Launch the game :
cd /home/john/.winemwo/drive_c/Program\ Files/Piranha\ Games/MechWarrior\ Online/Bin32/
WINEDEBUG=-all WINEPREFIX=/home/john/.winemwo wine MechWarriorOnline.exe

** About this old video **
This video was captured 2 years ago with wine 1.5.29 ( without any patches ). As of writing, the game suffers from screen flashing with plain unpatched wine 1.7.47. Nowadays to get it working you'll need to use wine-staging.
On a side note, the framerate was really low, got something like 10-20fps on low setting in 1280x720. With some freezes from time to time at the beginning of a match.
