litladventures Fanatics Fest NYC 2024
The litlgeeks took a trip to NYC Friday August 16th, to take part in DAY ONE! Of the first ever Fanatics Fest in NY. This event gathers all the big names in sports under one review to deliver an absolutely one of a kind, exciting, and fun experience to fans, collectors, and families. The litlgeeks had a blast, we all had a great time. Watch the video, watch the kids race Rob Gronkowski, check out our quick slide show. That's just a small helping of what to expect, the rest is below:
- Get tickets at https://www.fanaticsevents.com/ffnyc
Fanatics Fest NYC is at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City
- There are still tickets for today (Saturday August 17th) and tomorrow August 18th.
- For a family of four you can expect to spend about $150 to get in the door. If your kids are over 12, it's four full price tickets and you are north of $200
- Autographs and photo ops are still available for both of the remaining days. We chose a family photo with Eli Manning. It was prohibitively expensive, but Eli is a hero of the litlgeeks, so we leaned into it, and we have a fantastic photo forever, and a blur of a memory of being quickly ushered into a room, posed, and ushered out, maybe 20 seconds total. Know that's what you are buying with a photo op.
- Prices for these very wildly, from $30 for an autograph with Mookie Wilson (HERO!) to $600 and north for an autograph from Kareem Abdul Jabbar. This isn't so much a show problem, but kind of a state of 2024 problem. For hardcore fans, this is probably an outstanding way to get a lot of autographs and photos in one place. For families, I can't recommend this with limited exception. It's an expensive day to get to NYC, and then get in the door. If you or your kids have a hero on the roster, go for it and don't regret it. But understand that this more than any session based meet / greet is far more transactional / assembly line than anything I've seen, and that's what you are getting. Make sure it's of value to YOU!
The above is all a little intimidating, but here is where it gets fun
- Incredible athlete and celebrity pop ups throughout the show, throughout the day. In addition to getting to run a 40 yard dash with Rob Gronkowski out of nowhere, and getting their Eli Manning Jerseys signed by..Rob Gronkowski. Three minutes later, Tom Brady showed up, then Robert Craft. Then Gronk and Tom were walking the floor in full Patriots Uniforms with helmets in disguise. Pete Alonso hanging out, walking around.
- Tons of media outlets, WFAN, YouTube Channels, PodCasts, broadcasting with athletes and celebrities from the show floor, and having fans interact
- All of the major leagues were represented, and each had really fun booths and activations for kids and families to take part in, NFL had the 40, NHL had goal accuracy, MLS had goals, MLB had a wiffle ball field, NBA had a walk up of the tournament trophy and a half court with mini free throw tournies for prizes.
- There is no Fanatics event, or fan event at the Javits without shopping! Fanatics was there in major force. Beautiful store, tons of team gear to buy from top end Mitchell & Ness to the new 'elevated' sports apparel line from Jessie Palmer (The Bachelor, also assures us he was a New York Giant at some point).
- TONS of card vendors. Rows of trading card vendors, buyers, trading card supplies. Some reasonable, some wildly expensive, lots of rare signed gear and cards too.
- Panels - The day was full of panels in the Theater 1D (downstairs). We only hit one but it was amazing, and we got to see a roster of New York Giant Legends on the stage, Strahan, Tuck, Burress, Palmer, Otis, and Eli! Really a special moment to celebrate the 100th Giants anniversary. But there are a ton more panels scheduled through the weekend, and the full schedule is at the link at the start of this
The day was full, the step count was high, and it was pretty non-stop action of things to see, do, and buy. Food is on site, expect on site food prices. This was a great time, cannot recommend enough, but go with a budget and stick with it. Stretch for something once in a lifetime, but otherwise, make a plan, stick to it, have a blast!
