LogiKing [ロジカル真王] Game Sample - NS
I don't really want to say bad things about this game... but my hands are kind of tied; there is almost no information about the game out there as well as almost no videos, which is a little baffling given its pedigree.
Released a few months back in December of 2022 as a Switch exclusive, the game was published and co-developed by FuRyu and ART (who also worked together on "Unchained Blades") based around a new card game IP by Shogakukan in conjunction with Hiro Morita (concept and character designs as well as the mangaka for an original LogiKing story) and Kazuki Sugimoto (Game Design). Hiro Morita is perhaps best known for his involvement with "Beyblade Burst" and as an assistant on "Hayate the Combat Butler" while Kazuki Sugimoto is a relative newcomer to the industry with no major accolades prior to this. While the concept of the game is fundamentally sound, calling "LogiKing" barebones would be kind of a compliment.
While the in-game explanation is a little convoluted, I'll keep things simple: Each player has access to the same ten cards that are numbered 0-9 and determine turn order via a coin toss. From there, each player selects two of their ten cards to put into their hand. Afterwards, the player uses the remaining eight cards to help deduce the two cards in the opponent's hand. Following so far? Good, as this is the core of the gameplay loop, but it gets a bit more sophisticated. Each card has special abilities that make it easier to deduce what each player is holding. There is an Effect Phase (where you use a card's ability and place it in the discard pile) and an Attack Phase (where you pick the opponent's hand and select a number from 0-9). Discovering the right number in the right hand results in a "Logical" and the goal is to get two Logical deductions to win. Cards can narrow down the numbers to guess, destroy an opposing card, revive a card, swap a card from your hand, attack more than once, and more.
The energy on display gave me slight vibes of one of FuRyu and Lancarse's unsung gems, "Lost Dimension", but there is sadly not enough game here to justify a purchase. The in-game audio/visuals are serviceable for this type of game, but the fact that there are ONLY ten cards is laughable. Yes, you can play online against others, but not only is the single player experience sorely lacking, there's almost nothing to unlock or take into the online game besides alternate skins for your ten cards (which are also used for your player avatars to add insult to injury). The game does advertise downloadable content and gives off the illusion of expanding your options with multiple decks, but three months in and there isn't a single new card to spice things up and it's giving the big impression of an abandoned game. At $15, there are WAY better options of the card variety ("SNK Vs. Capcom: Card Fighters' Clash" is on Switch and only half the price with way more to offer as a glaring example) and even more if you're willing to pay that are obvious like the multitude of "Yu-Gi-Oh!", "Magic" and "CardFight!!" titles, and this is with me putting practically zero thought into it.
If you still want to try it, I won't stop you, of course. Use this video to gauge if it's up your alley, but don't have any grandiose expectations on an improved game... although I will happily change my opinion if they release some considerable (and reasonably priced) expansions. This video goes over a few matches and ends with Credits and Licensing. You can get the game at:
