Loki Opening Scene Easter Eggs + Thanos References And More Things YOU Missed Explained
The opening scene pulled straight from the first episode of the upcoming Marvel Loki disney plus series. There’s a lot more to this clip than you think, so stay with me on this one.
So, for starters, this TVA agent here says that loki grabbing the tesseract and using it is just a standard sequence violation in which only one branch broke in the time stream. We know, from previous trailers, that Loki causes at least 12 branches in time. Meaning, in this scene, he must grab the tesseract and use it again trying to flee the TVA, but in doing so, accidentally makes more branches in time. And with each branch he creates, a new Loki variant is left. I say this because we all know we are expecting to see multiple versions of Loki throughout the series. To clear this up, you can actually see that the grey line is the timestream and the branching orange line is the branch that Loki is creating.
Anyway, the image of Loki that’s used on the tablet, looks like a screen shot of this scene from the Avengers 2012 movie. I don’t know, it’s a very “squint your eyes” kind of moment, but take a deeper look and you’ll see the resemblance.
Now, then there is the TVA’s choice in weaponry. You can see that her baton glows purple while the rest of the TVA agents' batons glow orange. This is because each baton has a different ability. For instance, the orange ones we saw vaporized that dude from the timestream. We know this purple one eventually knocks Loki into slow-motion from other trailers.
I think it then goes without saying that when Loki says he’s done with idiots in armoured suits telling him what to do, he’s referring to Iron Man. You could say that, or you could read into it a bit and say it’s Thanos who told him what to do. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, in Infinity War, Bruce Banner tells Tony that the Attack On New York was Thanos’ fault because Thanos sent Loki to Earth to retrieve the tesseract. Hence, Thanos telling him what to do.
Finally, and this one almost went right over my head, but when Loki is called a variant for the first time by the TVA agent, his first reaction is “I beg your pardon?” If you remember from Thor: Ragnarok, he said that same thing to Hela when Hela asked Loki and Thor to kneel. What’s poetic about this parallel is that the TVA agent lady and Hela both come out of Portals to intimidate Loki as well, making this scene more of a mirror.
Thanks all for watching!
