17Lombard RAC Rally by Mandarin Software / Red Rat, 1989.
This is the first authentic in-car rally game on the PC. It is lacking in pace notes (the co-driver just holds a map that doesn't match up to the road ahead at all!).
Mandarin Software evolved into Europress, so this game is effectively a forerunner to the Rally Championship series (Network Q RAC Rally, International Rally Championship, etc). It's based on the WRC Great Britain stage.
The game included a bizarre multiple-choice "TV Interview", where answering multiple-choice rally trivia questions would earn you money to fix your car!
Note: many places list this game as a 1988 release, but on the PC loading screen it states the copyright is 1989...
