I don't really like the weird new are this adds. It feels like an after thought, and by the time you can explore the ruins, you don't have much reason to do so. That said, the game was pretty good throughout. A bit on the easy side, but ultimately probably an improvement over baseline Metroid. The quality of life improvements such as the minimap and save rooms make the game less grindy overall. The quest markers make it much less mazelike which is both a good and bad thing, since the mazelike nature was one of the things which led to it feeling so desolate.
