Longplay: Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong-Quest (MSU-1 Restored Soundtrack)
Original Game By: Nintendo, Rare
MSU-1 By: Byuu/Near
Restored Music By: Jammin' Sam Miller
Of all the platformers I’ve ever played, this one takes the number one spot easily. One of the best video games AND sequels of all time.
Rare clearly got a kick out of the Gangplank Galleon that you fought K. Rool on at the end of DKC1, and this time made an entirely pirate themed game. The Kremlings are now pirates (including K. Rool himself, now known as Kaptain K. Rool), and have kidnapped Donkey Kong to hold him ransom for his banana hoard. In one of the great underdog stories of our time, Diddy Kong is now the main character, as he kong-quers Crocodile Isle with his girlfriend Dixie Kong to save DK and prove to Cranky Kong that he’s just as good a hero. Diddy is incredibly fast while Dixie has a helpful ponytail helicopter move. They also have a new team throw move to toss each other onto higher spots.
DKC2 has one of the best soundtracks of all time, even managing to outdo the original game’s music. David Wise perfectly strikes a balance between fun melodies and a dark atmosphere, which goes hand in hand with the darker environments this game has. Jammin’ Sam has once again hit it out of the park with this soundtrack restoration too; playing this game with higher quality music feels like wearing glasses for the first time.
As a side note, you're probably wondering why I keep entering the other Kongs' places and leaving without doing anything. I learned the hard way in one playthrough that you actually need to visit them all for the last 1%. Otherwise, your file will cap at 101%.
