In order to unlock the Beggar achievement, you must have Ernest join your team. To do this, play until you have access to the first floor, and don't have a full party. Once you have access to the first floor, you want to head there from the stairwell. After exiting the door to the first floor, head west, and keep going past the first intersection. Once you get to the second intersection, you will see some arrows down the hall to the north. Go into the door these arrows are pointing at.

You will now be in Ernest's home. Talk to the rat, Col. Squeakums, and choose "What did you do?!", "Where did they take him?", and then "Take me to the lair!" This will cause Col. Squeakums to leave the room, so do the same, and then keep following them. Eventually, you will come to a stop, and Col. Squeakums will reveal a hole in a wall. Interact with it, and you will be asked if you want to proceed. Do so.

You will now be stuck fighting a horde of rats. As you keep killing the rats, the pile in the back will keep getting smaller. Kill all of the piles to end the fight. Once the fight is over, continue following the path to the east. Eventually, you will see Col. Squeakums. Talk to them, and they will tell you the weakness of the next enemies, Lantern Rat and Tall Rat. Tall Rat is weak to fire, and Lantern Rat is weak to acid. Kill them to move on.

Once that fight is done, continue following the path. Once again, you will see Col. Squeakums again. Unfortunately I wasn't paying attention and forgot to talk to Col. Squeakums, but I am sure they will tell you the weakness of the next fight. Run Into the enemies past Col. Squeakums to fight them. Sorry, I don't have much advice to give on these ones. I just beat the crap out of them.

After the fight, head north. For one last time, you can speak to Col. Squeakums. He will tell you that you have a choice of the final boss that is next. Left is The Beast, and right is The Champion. If you fight The Champion, apparently it is a 1v1 fight. Choose whichever fight you want, and win.

Now, keep heading north. Talk with Ernest in the final room, and he will join your party, unlocking the achievement in the process!
