A dedicated gamer's YouTube channel celebrating gaming. The good, the bad, and the two polygon. Logical Leveling talks about everything gaming: news, upcoming games, and reviews. As well as some of the more obscure topics, like the impact of a certain game and why a game failed. If you're a lifelong fan of video games and everything about them, this is a home for you.
So join the community! Subscribe, comment, and get involved. The goal of Logical Leveling isn't just for me to talk about games (though that is fun) but to find like-minded people and have a discussion. So let me know if you disagree or why you do agree on a video. I'd love for Logical Leveling to become a home base for people who like to get into the nitty-gritty of the gaming industry. If that sounds like something you want or would enjoy, then it's up to you to make it happen!

If you've clicked on this video as a Dead Cells or Hades fan and you've got Loopmancer in your cart hoping for a green light. Then, green light friend, this is a good one of those. Not perfect, but if you enjoyed the combat in Dead Cells, You'll get your money's worth.
Loopmancer is a run-based game, so you'll start each run from the first level. Fight your way through the levels until you die and start again or make it to the end. In each run, you'll be collecting different temporary powerups to help as well as a currency. When you die, you'll lose these powerups and any unspent currency. You'll use that currency to unlock and upgrade different weapons and abilities. This progression does feel good, and I do feel stronger each run, but the randomness can sometimes get in the way. You don't get to choose what you'll take with you in each run. This can lead to a situation where you've fully unlocked and upgraded a weapon you like only to not come across it in the next run, but the combat is slick and satisfying enough that it's rare you'll end up with a weapon or ability that you don't like even if it's not your favorite. Speaking of the Combat
It is the star of Loopmancer. It's fast and brutal. Challenging enough to make you earn your victories but without feeling overwhelming. All your attacks, melee, ranged, specials flow well, and it's definitely the highlight of the game. This is where the game truly shines.
And shine, it definitely does Loopmancer looks amazing. A lot of time went into level detail, lighting, and particle effects, and it shows. It can get in the way sometimes. It can be hard to keep track of enemies on screen, And this is before we've reached the invisible teleporting cyber ninjas. Yeah, this game is cool. While it's annoying to lose precious health because you couldn't see through the spray of neon and blood, it never happened enough to be frustrating. If anything, it taught me to always be dodging.
Lastly, the narrative, I was looking forward to the story in Loopmancer, but it didn't quite live up to expectation. Loopmancer makes an attempt at weaving a gritty noir detective story in a sci-fi setting with time loops. But ends up being predictable. I enjoyed what was there but wouldn't recommend it for the story alone.
Overall if you're looking for some rewarding side-scrolling action, you'll enjoy your time with Loopmancer. The story didn't quite hit the mark, but the sense of progression and visceral action makes up for that. It ended up being the kind of game I'd tell myself one more run, only to lose the next 4 hours, filling my screen in a fiery flurry of flying limbs. What more could you possibly need?
