Transcript:

Formed in 2011, Red Barrels Game brought together a ragtag group of developers who left EA when their corporate overlords decided to axe their brand new IP. The developers set out to create the ultimate horror game by drawing inspiration from the surreal short film shot in nightvision, "Rubber Johnny", and Amnesia which they loved for what it didn't have: combat.

Development was rocky, but Red Barrels eventually secured funding from an angel investment and went to the Canada Media Fund, a grant from the Canadian government to fund projects. Though after missing the first deadline and waiting half a year to apply again they had to raise three hundred thousand dollars themselves to get the rest funded by the CMF.

With funding in place, the tiny 10-man team went to work on Outlast. They made a conscious choice to stay away from the more action driven style that horror games were trending towards. Outlast was originally demoed at E3 and PAX East to much critical acclaim. The game was so scary that it made people faint and knock out the walls at their booth.... HAVE FUN!
