Hawk, Falcon, Owl, and Wren are four orphans trying to find their destiny in a hostile land. Hawk helps a young Gypsy boy and is rewarded with a strange book, "How To Be A Hero." If he follows the book's advice, life will soon change for all of them.

In this chapter, Hawk arrives at the village of Siegburg and prepares to begin his life of adventure. But he soon finds that the adventuring life is never easy, and that he has a great deal to learn.
