Lotus is making big strides toward an all-electric future, and their new concept, the Theory 1, gives us a preview of what's coming. This sharp-looking, two-door sports car packs an impressive 987 horsepower, has all-wheel drive, and is designed to weigh less than 3,500 pounds. The focus here is on combining speed and agility, with performance as the main goal.

The Theory 1 takes its design cues from the classic Lotus Esprit. It features a wedge-shaped body with a bold nose, complemented by slim, boomerang-shaped headlights. While the front may remind you of a mid-engine layout, similar to the Esprit, the back of the car is a different story. It has ultra-thin taillights, a large spoiler that can deploy when needed, and a huge diffuser. The doors are particularly unique—they open upwards and swing back, adding a futuristic feel to the car.

Inside, the car is built on a carbon tub and has a three-seat setup, much like the famous McLaren F1. The driver sits in the center with two passenger seats beside them. The interior is full of high-tech features, including a head-up display, screens that replace side mirrors, and seats and a steering wheel equipped with massage and feedback features. The car even has built-in speakers in the headrests, crafted with a 3D-printed design, for a fully immersive audio experience.

One of the most futuristic touches is the set of hidden "on-demand" buttons. These buttons appear when needed and blend back into the reactive material when they're not, giving the interior a sleek and uncluttered look.

Under the hood—or rather, beneath the body—the car has a 70-kilowatt-hour battery. This should provide a range of around 250 miles on a full charge. Lotus also claims it will go from 0 to 62 miles per hour in less than 2.5 seconds, with a top speed of 200 miles per hour. While it might not have as much power as the 2,000-horsepower Evija, the Theory 1 is much lighter, showing that Lotus is sticking to its tradition of making lightweight, high-performance sports cars.
