Lula is applauded at the UN after criticizing the inclusion of Cuba as a terrorist country

🏢 Government Power | President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers' Party) was applauded at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States, when he criticized Cuba's classification as a terrorist country.
"Other parts of the planet have already witnessed interventions that caused greater damage than intended, with serious humanitarian consequences. The path to dialogue should not be closed in Venezuela. Haiti has the right to a future free from violence. And it is unacceptable that Cuba be listed as a state sponsor of terrorism," Lula said in his opening speech this Tuesday (September 23, 2025).
There is a back-and-forth between Cuba's inclusion and removal from the status of a state sponsor of terrorism. In 2015, Barack Obama (Republican Party) removed the island from the list. In 2021, just days before leaving the White House in his first term, Donald Trump (Republican Party) put the country back on the list. In 2025, also in his final days in office, Joe Biden (Democratic Party) announced the withdrawal, which Trump reversed when he once again assumed command of the United States.
