M2 MacBook Air Vs M1 MacBook Air | Is It Worth Upgrading?
In July, sales of MacBook Air in a new design on the M2 processor will start. Therefore, I propose to discuss whether it is worth updating or not.
I asked myself this question, because I have been using the line since the first generation, tested the model on Intel, then switched to the MacBook Pro and still returned to the MacBook Air with the M1, which I still use. Therefore, I will share my observations in the context - what really got better in the new Air, and what does not play a special role.
To begin with, I propose to look at the main specs of the MacBook Air on the M1 and M2. The previous version is not withdrawn from sale, but is reduced in price, and maybe it's time to take it?
As you can see, there are changes in almost every paragraph. Only the number of ports has not changed, which is very sad - I was really looking forward to a slot for SD cards, but no luck. Does MagSafe solve anything? Not really.
Let's start with the dimensions - the MacBook has lost its trademark wedge-shaped shape, but the thickness is now 1.13 cm, while before it ranged from 0.41 to 1.61 cm. At the same time, the width increased by 26 mm - most likely due to a change in the size of the top F-series rows. In theory, if you still have Apple's branded leather case, the new MacBook should fit, although it may stick out a little. The weight has changed slightly, while we do not forget that the screen has become larger.
Secondly, the screen diagonal has become larger due to the reduction of frames - 13.3 inches versus 13.6. Because of this, I had to sacrifice the MacBook Air inscription under the screen. Matrix Liquid Retina, but do not flatter yourself too much - this is the same IPS LED, just improved, with a brightness of up to 500 nits. In general, matrices have always been excellent in MacBooks, but I'm already waiting for at least miniLED. In addition, 90% of the time I use a monitor, so the diagonal and matrix do not play a special role this time.
Autonomy, in fact, has not changed in any way, although at the presentation it was presented as if it had been improved. In fact - the same 18 hours, we managed to achieve this thanks to the increased battery. I'm not sure, but there is a feeling that the new M2 chip has not become noticeably more energy efficient. The only thing that is interesting from the section “well, finally!” - Added fast charging. In case you forgot to charge the laptop and you need to urgently run away. 30 minutes - 50%. But not without BUT.
MacBook Air on M1 is not removed from sale and officially remains at the same price - from $ 999. The MacBook Air (M2) is $200 more expensive. The best price in the USA, provided that you buy in Delaware or apply for Tax Free.
