Mad City Famicom Hard Mode Speed Run: No Items, No Deaths!
This is a deathless without using any items speed run of Mad City for the Famicom while playing on the hardest difficulty level (third quest).
SOILER, yes, that's SOILER, not SPOILER, you spoiled brats, I just shat my pants, you hear?! The alternate ending is included here, whereby Billy fails to embrace his beloved Annabelle, either by deliberately running circles around her, or through bad programming!
That's right, you "KONAMI BUG CHECKERS", you all failed and should be fired! I exposed you by accidentally placing Billy near the top right corner, where Annabelle couldn't reach him for some twisted reason! You sick bastards!
Anyway, Mad City is the original Famicom version of what went on to become The Adventures of Bayou Billy for the NES, but as some of you may already know, they aren't exactly the same game.
While Mad City claimed to be a "triple hard action game" in its Japanese commercial, it was actually The Adventures of Bayou Billy that went on to live up to that billing instead. Here's why:
After the game is completed (in both the Famicom and NES versions), the player can continue playing the game for a second consecutive time, with slightly harder enemies and bosses and more enemies to deal with during the shooting stages. We'll call this Billy's Second Quest, but we're just gettin' started!
Once the second quest is beaten, the hardest difficulty level will follow during Billy's Third Quest, with even stronger enemies/bosses and more enemies in the shooting levels than before! The game will then remain on this difficulty level from here on out.
As much as the makers of Mad City would like for us to believe that it's a "triple hard action game", Mad City plays a lot more like a triple easy action game, as opposed to The Adventures of Bayou Billy, which is probably as hard as Bayou Billy's willy!
So, in order to make Mad City feel more like a Bayou Billy game, it's highly recommended that the player play through the third quest without using any items. But even then, the very first quest of The Adventures of Bayou Billy is STILL harder!
Special thanks to Tom "rdrunner" Votava for pointing out that The Adventures of Bayou Billy has three quests/difficulty levels, as I would have never known otherwise and therefore been unable to apply this knowledge to Mad City. Damn instruction manual mentioned nothin' of it!
Played by Daniel "DTysonator" Teixeira on an original NES console with a regular controller and while using a Famicom adaptor.
