Robots are a familiar sight in fiction, but where did they come from? Well, from a 1921 Czech stage play, of course (I mean, where else?). Since then, robots, and robot stories, have grown into a genre of their own, with wildly diverse plots and themes. Or have they? How far have writers truly come from the Frankenstein complex there-are-some-things-mankind-was-not-meant-to-know origin of Rossum's Universal Robots? Join Sign Guy, professional nerd and reader of at least three books, to examine how the themes from these early works carried forward into modern robot stories, from The Matrix and Terminator to Star Trek and Stellaris.
