Described as being one of the fastest developing music genres of the 21st century, video game music continues to demonstrate incredible commercial success of which coincides with the overall growth of the global games market. Since the genre's formative years of the mid-1980's, jazz has had major influence on the compositional and performative aspects of this music. Despite these accolades, video game music has received minimal attention in the world of academia, and this is quite evident throughout jazz institutions. This lecture is intended to remedy the issue through in-depth investigation of the benefits of video game music on jazz education, ultimately pushing for greater utilization and inclusion of this genre in academic settings.

The subject of this panel is derivative of Rashaad Greene's final project at the University of Miami, the Doctoral Essay. He will be defending this thesis as the culminating project that leads towards graduation and him obtaining his doctorate of music credentials.
