Make a Multiband Compressor With BITWIG Devices & Containers
151In this video we talk about multiband compression. We look at how to create a powerful multiband compressor with the Bitwig Studio Devices and Containers. It's actually quite straight forward, and it gives you plenty of controls.You only create it once and then you can reuse it with your future songs. =)
Multiband Compressors, like the OTT and Neutron, are excellent devices for bringing out character from your sounds and making them stand out (or sit) in a mix.

ACOUSTIC GUITAR COMPRESSION
In the video we record some soft acoustic guitar with a Seagull steel string acoustic. Furthermore, we create a multi-band compressor and setup some sweet macro controls. The result is an even and polished overall sound.
Someone asked if the Dynamics Device is Multiband by default. But that's a little misconception. It has Low and High (level) controls so you can do expansion and compression with the same device. But there is just one "full spectrum" band. If you want Multiband compression you have to use a similar setup to this Multiband FX-3 chain that we create in this video. Or use third party MB like OTT. =)
What's the difference between the Compressor and Dynamics devices of Bitwig?
The dynamics plugin is based on a pure VCA (voltage controlled amplifier) design, while the compressor plugin is also based on a VCA design it adds feedback operation as known from the UREI 1176LN. The feedback operation in urei 1176ln (ln= low noice) uses vca curcuit but singals go thru FET.
So to my ears the Dynamics is much more transparent compared to the Compressor which can give you some cool saturation.
Try running the signal really hot into the compressor, use a low attack / release (be sure to lower the output). You will get some really nice fuzz out of your sounds.
Experimenting is key in Bitwig.
