In this video of Oxygen Not Included I use magma and tungsten plate to turn oil into natural gas. Oil turns into petroleum at 399.9 C and petroleum turns into natural gas at 538.9 C. Magma is usually over 1400 C. Using this process you get almost 40 times the amount of energy out of the oil vs. refining it first and burning the petroleum.

It is a slower process though and eventually the magma will cool below 538.9C but it should last good amount of time.

This uses a temperature counter current system that preheats the incoming oil and cools the outgoing oil using a very simple metal "bridge".

I built this in debug mode but it could easily be built without debug.

You could use a magma volcano as your source of heat as well.
