Malicious (PS3) - Battlefield of Yore (4th Boss | No Sword)
This game has been under my attention for some time now. I was conflicted between buying Muramasa Rebirth OR Malicious Rebirth for Vita. The former is on a nice discount (12,45 €, normally 25 €) on EU PlayStation Store while the latter is 12,95 €. In order to make a more thoughtful decision, I asked Turboherne to share his download of the PS3 version of Malicious so I would get to know what it's all about.
And while I DID end up buying Muramasa Rebirth today because of it's astounding discount, Malicious left a positive impression of how it works in general. Technically speaking the whole boss rush / increasing difficulty is a nice concept for someone who likes to grind same shit over and over again (Metal Gear Rising, Devil May Crys, Monster Hunter....). Every win scores more ever-helpful abilities and perks but apparently the bosses scale with them somehow.
But y'all know that already if you've read anything about the game before, so I'll cut to the chase.
This is the fourth boss in this run so it's difficulty level is up a few spots.
This flying airship sort of battle tank was a pain to beat despite the fact I had just about everything I needed to beat it. The six jumps, thousand fist fury and the piercing lance covered just about everything that this boss requires. Flexible mobility to reach all parts of the battleship, rapid combos to quickly dispose of anything off the battleship and a go-through piercing move that is good for dealing with crowded minions -and there are lots of them in this game-.
What made this nigga tedious though was the fact that after it was down to 50 % health, it started to generate an all-immune shield around it and further down the line it kept going back to square one so half of the time I was beating the shield for nothing, while the rest of the field was out to get my head on a plate via hidden missiles. No idea whether the shield regenerating was intended or not, but it certainly did not make this fight any easier as I had to constantly gather more Aura from defeated foes in order to heal as soon as I took any damage.
At any rate, I was glad to see it fall down, I struggled with this one quite a bit and it was during this particular run that I actually capitalised on the fact that I could break parts of the ship and render most of the interruptions useless, which in turn gave me a bigger window for dishing out damage.
This game felt like a lot of fun and a perfect fit for a portable game, when taken the Vita version into consideration. No doubt Malicious Rebirth will be the next game I am buying and who knows, I might end up posting videos of it if Vita cam rips don't look like crap.
Happy New Year, everyone!
