MAME already emulates the Philips CD-i (albeit without a digital video cartridge), but it does so via simulation of several of the board's components, rather than emulation.

By contrast, this CD-i player variant is emulated using proper emulation of the two on-board microcontrollers (MCUs) in addition to the main CPU. These two MCUs handle the low-level drive mechanics and controller/front-panel I/O.

The audio DSP used in this player variant is not yet emulated, so the Mono-I board emulation will still be preferable for now in any case.
