Since having ported much of segher and BeckieRGB's SunPlus-based console emulator, Unununium, into MAME about 9 years ago, I hadn't really looked into it again. For a change of pace from Sun SPARCstation emulation, I figured I would take a look at the driver again.

In particular, one of the main deficiencies in the driver - and in Unununium - was that it was simply returning random values in place of the gyroscope X/Y/Z deflection values, so a number of the Sport Vii games were not playable.

To fix this I employed a bit of a hack which, in practice, works rather well: Treat each axis as a steering wheel with the sensitivity and auto-center speed cranked way up. Among other games, Bird Knight is now fully playable. It's actually a pretty decent Balloon Fight clone.
