Here's more work-in-progress footage of the Quantel DPB-7001 "Digital Paintbox" driver in MAME.

I've been working on getting font stamping working correctly. There's still a ways to go, but it turns out a good chunk of the problem was that the fonts themselves were not getting correctly installed onto the hard disk.
