After enabling a ton of logging related to the 3D pipeline used by the game, and a fair bit of head-scratching for a couple of hours, Rapid River now has something resembling 3D graphics in my local build of MAME.

It's nowhere near where it should be, but it's a lot better than it was (which was, no 3D at all).
