User "Rock537" wanted me to do a video of "World of Tanks" here on Daniel's Game Vault. It's a Mario fan game which he made. I know he's a fan of mine so I took his request. What can be said ? The game is an auto scrolling tank level, just like World 8-2 and 8-4 in the original Mario Forever and World 9-4 by Syzxchulun. There are still some bugs that need to be worked out. The first thing I noticed is that the controls don't feel as responsive as in Mario Forever - they feel a bit stiff and take some time adapting to. As soon as you release the arrow keys, Mario stops dead in his tracks - he doesn't slow down like he did in Mario Forever. The same thing happens if you try to perform a crouch-slide move - in Mario Forever you hit the "down" arrow while running in order to slide under enemies or narrow spots, but here Mario stops completely when you hit the "down" key, even if you are going at full speed. An even bigger problem is that the entire ground scrolls WITH the tanks, pulling Mario along with it, even if you're standing completely still. This causes you to be constantly "sucked" to the left side of the screen against your own will, so you have to tap the right arrow key to constantly adjust to the screen movement. The ground should remain still while the tanks move. There were also two glitches I encountered : the first one gave me infinite lives : I don't know what happened, but the life counter started off at 0 and I never got a "game over", even after losing way more lives than the 4 ones you're supposed to start off with. I knew that if I quit the game this wouldn't happen again, so I had to keep playing no matter what ! The second one was the famous "level getting stuck at the end" glitch, which plagued the Syzxchulun worlds - I got stuck after completing level 2, so I don't know if it's indeed a glitch, or if that's the whole game. If that's the case, pretty short I must say - I was expecting maybe a boss battle. There's also the "no checkpoints" pet peeve of mine. Why don't any of these games have that ?! I can accept not having checkpoints in the middle of the level, but at least have one at the beginning of each level, so if you die in level 2, you don't have to go back and do level 1 again ! I must admit that it's not the hardest game I've played, not by a long run. It's not nearly as hard as World 9, or as cheap as "World of Stupidity", but it wasn't easy either. Level 1 is actually harder than level 2 - I feel it should have been the other way around. I'd say that if the controls were a bit more responsive and some of the bugs were ironed over, this would be a great little fan game. If it indeed has only 2 levels, then it could also be a bit longer too. One last thing I need to say, the music is awesome ! They really made a good choice of soundtracks to put you in the mood. Until I can get any updates on the level bug, that's about it for now. Daniel out.
