Gotta go slow! LEGO Ideas 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog – Green Hill Zone just got an extra life and is sticking around for a little longer.
The set had previously been slated for retirement later this year, but the latest reshuffle from the LEGO Group has given it a new retirement date of December 2024, in line with the wider range of new Sonic sets that have recently been announced.
Pre-video game crash LEGO fans can also breathe a sigh of relief, as 10306 Atari 2600 isn’t heading into a metaphorical New Mexico landfill just yet and has also been moved back to a 2024 retirement date; previously it was scheduled to retire this year.
With the announcement of LEGO PAC-MAN, it’s clear that the LEGO Group is putting a greater focus on sets based around iconic video game properties.
Interestingly, with all current Super Mario LEGO sets now also slated for a 2024 retirement at the latest, the race is on. Mario or Sonic: who’s going to leave store shelves first?
This is a rare case in which Sonic doesn’t want to be the fastest.
