Mass Effect 2 (Gameplay #2) - Hang 'Em High
2The original Mass Effect was a fairly traditional and occasionally quite dry science fiction saga including plenty of genre-typical elements - everything from pseudo-scientific concepts (mass effects, relays, etc.) to a convoluted backstory (Reapers, Protheans etc.) as well as diplomatic tension between conveniently anthropomorphic alien races.
By contrast, at least to me Mass Effect 2 is only superficially a science fiction and really has far more in common with classic Westerns like "The Magnificent Seven" (1960) or war movies such as "The Dirty Dozen" (1967). These stories typically revolve around small groups of ultimately likeable anti-heroes who go up against overwhelming odds and achieve some form of redemption, and with Bioware's futuristic RPG sequel all that surrounding sci-fi lore thankfully takes a backseat to just such a charmingly archetypal, character-oriented tale of collective triumph in the face of adversity.
