Max Payne - Game Boy Advance (2003)
0I wasn't planning on this, but I've really been wanting to go back and play the original Max Payne. This jumped out at me because I completely forgot that this made it to the GBA.
It's a mixed bag, but it's not all terrible. The biggest problems are the draw distance and camera. You really have to be shot or get a little lucky to see an enemy before they're all over you. You can see that the camera is not gonna help with that. Combine that with the loose and flighty controls and it's like the code has been drowned in lube.
BUT, this is surprisingly faithful to the experience. The PC version was a very loose game to play as well, but it just had the advantage of being fully 3D. I'm amazed that they were able to pack all of the speech in and considering that the narrative was in the graphic novel style, nothing was lost there. If only the game had a bit higher of a resolution, it would be far more accessible, but I'd call this a surprise and a success.
