Maximum Roadkill / Maximum Road Race by Bits Corporation / Take 2 Interactive / Acclaim, 1996.

In Maximum Roadkill (renamed Maximum Road Race in some regions, to sound less controversial) you try to destroy opponents whilst racing around FMV-based tracks. The sprites fit in quite well but ping-pong all over the place, making it hard to see what's going on in the heat of battle.

The production values around the characters and menus are pretty low (especially the "recorded at home" style voiceovers!). Sound is okay, with some semi-catchy tunes, but the game is pretty hard to do well at (as I show here, in clips from the first 3 stages).

The roadkill part involves you running over creatures on each stage for a weapons power-up (etc). Stage 1 has spiders, stage 2 has "exploding bunnies" and stage 3 has, errrrr, penguins :-o

An interesting idea, but chaotic to play and not that much fun. Certainly the first two Megarace titles did FMV racing much better.
