If you are looking for adventure game (somewhat RPG) without too many complicated elements, this one might be good.

Random encounters are marked with bat icons. However, since you can control your direction after rolling the number, there is a way to avoid random encounters during your exploration, except when all of possible destinations are marked with it. Random encounters have one benefit though; the mobs have a slight chance to drop items that permanently raise one of your stats, which is very good for dealing with tough situations against the bosses.

Based on my observation, bosses in the latter half of the game have one powerful spell that deals huge damage to your character. Starting from stage 6, you'll see Holy Ray that instantly depletes 75% of your current HP. Note that the character's base HP is 100, so if you enter the battle with full HP and the boss casts it on the first turn, it will deal 75 damage. This spell is not accessible to your character. Then around stage 10 you'll see Meteor Strike that easily deals an average of 40-50 damage; with a possibility of 60-70 damage when critical. If the boss casts it consecutively then you'll most likely die, but this is quite unlikely to happen.

The game's system only allows you to bring up to four spellbooks that you need to set them first; you are not allowed to cast spell directly from inventory. And each spellbook will disappear after one cast. However, the enemies and bosses are not restricted to this and can cast spells many times whenever they wish. Including the aforementioned Holy Ray / Meteor Strike.

When progressing through the maze going west or south, the game uses a flipped sprite for your character instead of making a proper sprite for it. Therefore, since the character wield a sword on its right hand, you'll see him wield it on his left when going west of south. As result, you'll see him constantly switching grip during your exploration.
