This is a heavy mech with a mass of 70 tons, and it was originally manufactured by the Capellan Confederation in 3025 before the 4th Succession War (3028 to 3030). In the 3rd Succession War, the Capellan Confederation lost a lot of planets, and all of their heavy and assault mech production facilities were captured or destroyed. House Liao was unable to produce heavy and assault mechs, so Capellan engineers came out with an idea to use parts from various mechs to make a heavy mech. They used parts from the Marauder, Shadow Hawk and Phoenix Hawk make this franken mech.
This is quite a good mech despite being born out of desperation, it has a lot of armor for a 70 ton heavy mech. It's primary armaments are medium and heavy ballistic weaponry with a mix of medium energy weapons. On my variant, I mounted 2 Ultra Autocannon 5s, 2 Magshots, and 2 Medium X-Pulse Lasers. This model has a heavy emphasis on ballistic weapons, but there are other variants that have an emphasis on energy weapons, like the Cataphract CTF-3LL. On the Cataphract CTF-3LL, PPCs can be mounted on it to give it some punch.
One thing I like about the Cataphract is that it can take a lot of damage with having 435 armor points. Most of the armor is allocated on the center torso, like 113 points, which is more than assault mechs, like the Highlander HGN-733C has 111 points in the center torso. The Highlander is a 90 ton mech, while the Cataphract CFT-4X is a 70 ton mech.
This variant can carry about 33.4 tons worth of arms and munitions, which would enable you to carry a good array of armaments. The original CTF didn't have double heatsinks, but this one does which has better thermal properties. Inner Sphere double heatsinks are less size efficient compared to its Clan counterpart taking up one more space. This is why I cannot add additional munitions or heatsinks even when I have 2 tons of space weight.
The Cataphract is a real brawler in that it can dish out punishment, and it can also take a lot of punishment in return.
