Mechwarrior Online: Catapult Streak SRM2 Configuration
Mech Chassis: Catapult@65 tons
Weapon Configuration: 6 streak srm2s
Armor: Full armor
In this video, I will show you guys the best way to kill pesky light mechs. The best weapon to counter them would be the streak SRMs. There are four main reasons why I like this weapon, the first reason being the accuracy. The second reason is that it can be used at close ranges, and the third reason being the moderate to high level of damage per salvo. The fourth reason is the high rate of fire, and low heat generation for the streak srm2s.
Light mechs can be annoying, and they can also be deadly when they shoot you from behind. Light mechs are also used as spotters for LRM launchers, and support mechs armed with LRMs, like the catapult, vulture, etc. The best way to dispatch them is with weapons that are accurate weapons at short ranges. Some may say lasers, but lasers aren't easy to focus on a fast moving target on one spot. PPCs are difficult to aim at close ranges when a fast enemy mech closes in too close. Machine guns don't do much damage. LRMs aren't effective against targets that are at distance less than 200 meters. Autocannons are difficult to use, especially against fast moving targets at any range. Gauss rifles are also difficult to aim at close ranges and also against fast moving targets. Streak SRMs are great for killing any targets at close range, they can be assault mechs like the Atlas, or the Awesome. They can be Locusts, Fleas, Ravens, Jenners, Cicadas, Commandos, etc.
The streak srms will always ensure a high hit probably, they reload quickly, generate little heat, and inflict a great deal of damage. Some may say, why not just use srm 6s? I choose not to, because they generate too much heat, take longer to reload, and they aren't accurate. Sure, they can inflict a great deal of damage that is if you hit anything with it. Even at 270 meters, the unguided missiles spray like a shotgun. Wouldn't you rather use a rifled breach loading cannon than a smooth bore cannon? I would even though the bore diameter was less. I always prefer accuracy and rate of fire to raw damage potential. Every time, you miss with a heat generating weapon, you become less efficient. There is a high probability your mech will shutdown which will leave you vulnerable. Being able to manage your weapons is key to staying alive on the battlefield.
The best way to employ 6 streak srm 2s would be grouping them in 2s or 3s. Grouping your weapons is the most effective way to manage the heat on your mech. Grouping them in 3s would be like shooting one srm 6 at a time, and it would be a better way to manage hit probability & heat. You could group all the streak srm 2s together, but it would generate a lot of heat. The pros of all fire would be inflicting a lot of damage very quickly. If you group them in 3s, you could press both buttons at the same time, and you can fire all your weapons at the same time if you so desire. This is why it is more versatile to group your weapons than to group them all together.
