This is video #17 in my playthrough of Mega Man VII. Mega Man goes through the fourth and final stage of Skull Castle. The final encounter (of the game) is coming up, so go in prepared. Four Energy Tanks, four W-Tanks, and one S-Tank will be very helpful. The initial corridor contains some goodies.

True to Mega Man tradition, there are teleporters leading to all eight robot masters. They look quite different from the teleporters in the NES games, but they are no less effective. Slash Man and Burst Man will probably be the most dangerous, with Shade Man following. Freeze Man will be a wimp with the Junk Shield.

After all eight robot masters are defeated, Mega Man is automatically teleported to another area (time index 8:40). Be sure to energize the Freeze Cracker, Thunder Bolt, and Wild Coil.

At the bottom of the shaft, the final battle begins with a robot walker (time index 9:21). The aim is to shoot Dr. Wily with a charged Mega Buster shot or a Thunder Bolt. Wily has two main attacks. One, he will hop across the screen hoping to hit Mega Man with the walker's spiky goatee. Two, he will deploy two miniature robot walkers. These are best avoided. When Mega Man slides underneath him, he will run to the other side of the room and jump up.

When the walker is destroyed, Wily attacks in another saucer, but this one is a doozy (time index ). As in previous games, he will disappear and reappear at random. When he appears, he will fire four spheres that will rapidly converge on Mega Man. If you must get hit, you want the yellow to hit you. The red will hold Mega Man and deal about eight points of damage. The blue will freeze Mega Man and hold him to be damaged. If Mega Man lands a blow, Wily will also drop four balls of energy to the ground. One of them will hit Mega Man guaranteed if he gets frozen in a blue ball.

There are a few ways to approach this battle (time index 11:21). Perhaps the most effective is to strike him with a charged Wild Coil. This seems to do the most damage to him. If he is too high for the Wild Coil, Mega Man can shoot him with the Freeze Cracker. As a bonus, if Mega Man quickly follows up either one with a Thunder Bolt, WIly will not shoot the four spheres! Definitely try to follow up with a Thunder Bolt if possible.

When Mega Man finally takes out this nasty saucer, the final scenes play. Unfortunately, Mega Man doesn't get the chance to finish things. The mad scientist will be back...

Finally, the credits roll (time index 17:56). I very much enjoyed this game. I think it's a little odd that six Mega Man games were released on the NES, while this is the only one in the main series released on the SNES. I'm not counting the Mega Man X games, though. The graphics and music have received a much needed upgrade. The stages are quite well done, too. The story line is similar to the story of the previous games, but then again that's true of the Mario games, as well. Granted, I don't think this game has the same sentimental value as Mega Man II, but it's quite good. This is the last Mega Man game that I played regularly, as I got more into RPGs in the mid-1990s with the SNES Final Fantasy titles.

I hope you have enjoyed this playthrough as much as I have enjoyed making it.

Thanks for watching!
