Mega Man X2 introduces the X-Hunters as three optional bosses and the collecting of Zero's parts as a "best" ending scenario. Skipping all of that results in a fight with Zero just before Neo Sigma, which is honestly more fun. I show off all of it here, but there's some clunky forgetfulness as I really only am decent at X1. I think the music in this game sounds like melodic squeaking, so it pales in comparison to the first game in that regard. The weapons can at times be cumbersome, as well as some of the bosses, but overall it's still fun and probably the 2nd best of the series. Zero's sprite is awesome, as well as the double charge shot and mid-air dash.
