I make things that make me happy. (:

So, I'm working on a game that has a random top-down "stealth" section in it. I wanted to have enemies patrolling the area in the style of Wolfenstein 3-D or Rise of the Triad. So… I wrote an engine for it. It honestly didn't take long at all.

Basically, the Robot (that's a custom-scripted Object type) walks forward until it sees a CustomFloor tile at its feet. If it's an arrow type, the Robot changes direction. If it's literally anything else, it ignores the tile and keeps moving forward. Simple, but effective.

I originally had it working with a series of "if CustomFloor at any direction", but I realized later that just having it look AHEAD for the tiles is not only much more optimized, but it lends itself to more complicated patrol paths much easier, like the one shown in this video.

The patrol path for this one Robot probably isn't going to stick around. I just wanted to see if I could make it run around most of the Board. Hee hee.
