Ranked number 83 (as of August 31st 2014 with a score of 8.33) on the lemon64 top 100 is Mercenary: Escape from Targ. This open world first person game game was Published by Novagen Software (and by Datasoft in NA) in 1985 and was created by just one guy from what I can find: Paul Woakes who did the music graphics and coding for this game. The open world concept has it's draw backs on the c64 the buildings are sparse on the surface and even without much going on the game can lag quite a bit, once you enter a building things run much more smoothly but everything seems to be mainly fetch quests. All in all the game is a fun exploration game and if you are willing to take the time to draw out maps and whatnot a walkthrough isn't required, although your first play though finding things is a little agonising sometime as there aren't really any clues. I think this game is worth your time for sure but make sure you've got a lot of time for it.
