In this video, we'll guide you through two side quests in Dragon's Dogma 2: "Mercy Among Thieves" and "Off the Pilfered Path."
Mercy Among Thieves:
This quest begins when you accept Lyssandro's request to locate the hideout of the Coral Snakes, a gang of bandits near Checkpoint Rest Town. After giving food to a boy named Toumi and gathering information from nearby NPCs, you'll find the hideout just south of the town. Prepare for combat as you infiltrate the hideout, defeat the bandits, and capture Hugo, who will be sent to the gaol of Battahl.
Off the Pilfered Path:
This quest focuses on Hugo, now imprisoned at Bakbattahl Gaol. Depending on your actions, this quest can have multiple outcomes:
Outcome 1:
You help Hugo escape, kill Lanzo, and recommend a job to Hugo. To offer Hugo a job, you must complete the quests "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" or "Short-Sighted Ambition." This sets Hugo on a path to redemption.
Outcome 2:
You kill Lanzo but don't offer Hugo a job. Hugo is left directionless and embarks on a hopeless journey.
Outcome 3:
Hugo kills Lanzo but dies at the Ancient Battleground due to your delay.
Outcome 4:
You free Hugo from gaol without telling him the truth about his parents and don’t offer him a job. Hugo struggles to find his way.
Outcome 5:
You free Hugo from gaol without telling him about his parents, but you offer him a job (available if you've completed "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" or "Short-Sighted Ambition"). This leads him towards a better future.

Known Bugs:
Quest Stalling: Several players have reported issues where Hugo does not leave the prison even after paying the necessary bribes. If this happens, you may need to kill the guards, break Hugo out with a makeshift Gaol key or rest at an inn and return later to see if Hugo has escaped
Missing NPCs: Players reported that Benjamin does not appear at the Oxcart station, making it impossible to progress. If this happens, check the morgue or progress the main story; for reference, we were on 'The New Godsways' main quest in this video.
Some players also encountered a bug where Hugo and Lanzo fail to appear at the Ancient Battleground, making it impossible to progress. This often happens if too much time has passed or certain triggers don’t activate correctly
Combat Trigger Issues: Guards in Bakbattahl Gaol might attack the player without reason, which can break the quest progression. This may be avoided by ensuring you have the Battahl Residence Permit before entering the gaol
